Privacy PolicyTerms of Use

Paths of Ash · مسارات الألم, by Mohamad Ammar Bayan. Effective 24 October 2026.

Paths of Ash is a story game. It needs no account and asks for no personal details. This policy says what the game sends, why, who handles it, and how you can stop it.

What the game counts, and why

Unless you turn it off, the game counts your play anonymously, so that every player can see how others chose at each decision and how many reached each ending, and so the game can be made better. It sends:

  • the decisions you make (which scene, which option), how each skill moment went (clean, partial or failed), and the endings you reach, with the story year, the number of scenes and the difficulty;
  • the language you play in;
  • the path of each finished telling (the scenes you passed and the options you chose), and a short record of your play (your nickname or guest name, how many lives you told, which endings and how many trophies you found, and when you first and last played). Both are tied to the game's random sign-in number, never to your name or account, and only the developer can read them, to see which roads players take;
  • the kind of device: Android, Windows or a browser, the system and its version, the phone model the system reports, the game's version, the screen size, the device's time zone (a region such as “Europe/Berlin”, never a place), and its memory and number of processor cores, so we know which devices to test;
  • if something in the game breaks: the error message, where in the game's code it happened and the scene on screen, so it can be fixed;
  • a random number made on your device when you first play, and a random sign-in number from Firebase. Neither is your name, your phone number or your device's hardware number.

The players' board

After each life, the game writes one line on the players' board: a name, the number of lives you have played, endings you have found and trophies you have won, and your language. The name is a guest name the game makes up (such as “Traveller 4821”) unless you choose a nickname in Settings. The board never shows which side you chose or anything you did in the story.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Where it is supported (the web and Android versions), the same moments are also sent to Google Analytics for Firebase. Google's software also collects, by itself: an app-instance number, your device model and system version, your language, the times of your sessions, and an approximate country or region worked out from your internet address. We do not store your internet address.

Advertising (Android only, if ads are switched on)

Ads appear in two places only: a small banner at the top of the menu screens, and, if a life ends in a death, an ad you may choose to watch to tell it again from the moment that went wrong. Ads never interrupt the story. If a version of the game shows ads, they come from Google AdMob, which may use your device's advertising number, internet address and device information to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, Google's consent form asks you first. You can reset your advertising number or limit personalised ads in your phone's settings.

What stays on your device

Your progress, your Book and your settings are saved on your device. A save code or file you make in Settings is made by you and is never sent to us.

What we never collect

Your real name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, messages, precise location or payment details.

Who handles the data

The counts and the board are stored with Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, in Europe), which processes them for us. Google Analytics and AdMob are run by Google. We do not sell any data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

How long it is kept

Counts are totals (for example “412 players reached this ending”) and are kept while the game is offered. The record of each finished life and your line on the board are kept for as long as the game is offered, or until you ask us to delete them.

Your choices

  • Stop counting: Settings → “Count my tellings”. Nothing more is sent from then on.
  • Your name on the board: Settings → “Your name on the boards”. Leave it empty to be a guest again.
  • Ask us to delete your line or your records: write to info@asas-platform.com with the name shown on your line.

Children

The game is about a war and is meant for players aged 16 and over. It is not directed at children. If you believe a child has used it and want their records removed, write to us.

Security

Everything the game sends travels encrypted. The database only lets each player add to counts and write their own line; nobody else can read the records of finished lives.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with its date. Questions: info@asas-platform.com.

This website

This website (poa.asas-platform.com) shows the game, its download and its policies. It shows no advertising, and its fonts and pictures come from our own server. It remembers your choice of language, and your answer about analytics, in your browser's storage, which never leaves your device.

Google Analytics, only if you allow it

On your first visit the site asks whether it may count your visit. Only if you choose “Allow” does it load Google Analytics, which sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…, kept for up to two years) and tells us, without your name, which pages and parts of the page are used: for example that a visitor read the story, tried a skill or tapped Download, with the kind of device and browser, the language, and a country or region worked out from the internet address. Google Analytics does not store your internet address. Google processes this for us and may handle it outside your country under its own safeguards. We use it only to make the site and the game better, never for advertising. If you choose “No, thanks” nothing is loaded and no cookie is set. You can change your answer at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.

The contact form

When you write to us through the form, we receive your name, your email address, the topic you chose and your message. We use them only to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. They are stored on our server and sent to our mailbox, info@asas-platform.com. We keep a message for as long as we need it to answer you, and at most two years after your last message, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

To keep spam out, the form uses Google reCAPTCHA. It loads only when you reach the form, and sends Google information about your browser and how the page is used, so it can tell a person from a program. Google's privacy policy applies to it.

Server logs

Like every web server, ours sees your internet address and the page you ask for, in order to send it. To stop the form being abused, the server keeps your address in memory for up to 15 minutes to count messages; it is not written down. Our hosting provider may keep standard access logs for a short time for security.

Downloads and the web demo

Downloading the game sends nothing beyond the request itself. A web demo at /play/, when there is one, is the game itself: the sections above say what it counts and how to turn that off.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to object to how we use it, and to complain to a data protection authority. The person responsible for your data is Mohamad Ammar Bayan; write to info@asas-platform.com and we will answer within 30 days.

1. Who we are

Paths of Ash is a story game made by Mohamad Ammar Bayan (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at info@asas-platform.com or through the contact form.

2. Agreeing to these terms

By downloading, installing or playing Paths of Ash, in any version (Windows, Android or the browser), or by using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the game or the website. If you use them for someone else, you confirm that you may agree for them.

3. Your licence to play

The game is free. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download, install and play it for your own, non-commercial enjoyment. You may share the link to this website with anyone. You may not:

  • sell, rent or charge for the game, or bundle it with something you sell;
  • publish changed copies of the game, or copies from anywhere other than our official links;
  • copy, reverse-engineer or take apart the game beyond what the law allows you to, or take its story, pictures, music or code to use elsewhere;
  • use the game to cheat its statistics or the players' board, for example by automating play or guessing codes.

4. Videos, streams and screenshots

You are welcome to stream the game, post videos and screenshots of your play, and earn money from them on video and streaming sites, as long as you name the game. Please warn your audience that it shows war and loss. Publishing the whole story as text, or the art on its own, is not allowed without asking us.

5. Who owns what

The story, characters, pictures, music, sounds and code of Paths of Ash belong to Mohamad Ammar Bayan. The fonts belong to their authors and are used under the SIL Open Font License. Services we use (Google Firebase, Google Analytics and Google AdMob) have their own terms. Nothing in these terms gives you ownership of any part of the game.

6. What the game contains

Paths of Ash is fiction inspired by real events. Its country, cities, leaders and factions are invented, and any resemblance to real people is not intended. It shows war, imprisonment, loss and death; violence is shown through its consequences, and torture is implied, never shown. It is meant for players aged 16 and over. It is not a historical record and does not take any side's view as its own.

7. Names on the players' board

If you choose a nickname, it appears on the players' board for others to see. Do not choose a name that is offensive, hateful, sexual, pretends to be someone else, or contains anyone's personal details or a link. We may change such a name back to a guest name or remove a line from the board without notice.

8. Hopes, codes and ads

Hopes, trophies and promotional codes exist only inside the game. They have no money value, cannot be bought, sold or exchanged, and may be changed or withdrawn. A code may be limited in how many times, or on how many devices, it can be used. Versions of the game that show ads show them through Google AdMob, as described in the privacy policy; watching an ad is always your choice.

9. Your progress

Your progress is saved on your device. Removing the game, clearing its data or changing devices can erase it. To keep a copy, use Settings → Your progress in the game. We cannot recover lost progress.

10. Downloads

Official copies of the game are only the ones linked from this website, and from Google Play when it is listed there. The Windows version is not yet code-signed, so Windows may warn you before it runs; this is expected for our files and a reason to be careful with copies from anywhere else. We are not responsible for copies obtained elsewhere.

11. Using this website

Do not attack, overload or try to break into this website, collect its content automatically in a way that harms it, or use the contact form to send spam, threats or anything unlawful. We may block anyone who does.

12. As it is

We work hard to make the game good and keep it running, but we provide the game and the website as they are and as available. We do not promise they will always work, be free of errors or suit every device, and we may change, update or stop them at any time.

13. Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data or lost profits from using or being unable to use the game or the website. Because the game is free, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for it, if anything. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

14. Changes, law and contact

We may update these terms; the new version will appear on this page with its date, and using the game or website after that means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the developer is established, without taking away the protection that the mandatory laws of your own country give you. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. Questions: info@asas-platform.com.
